Intimation: A long time wish to ride Kolli hills fulfilled with friend meet up but by drive – It is rider’s heaven due to its curves, even though I went for a drive, I will make sure to hit again in my two wheel toy.

About the Habitation – Kolli Malai is named after goddess Ettukai Amman [KolliPaavai], well known for its hills, waterfalls, viewpoints, temples and availability of wide range of medicinal herbs.

About the Geography – It is located in the Eastern Ghats of South India, Tamizhnadu in the district of Namakkal, which is 1300m above sea level.

My Previous experience about Kolli Hills ( KolliMalai) – It is one of the hills top which I was planning to visit very often but kept on missing due to unavoidable reason, every year I cross Namakkal for sure which is the way for my native hence every visit to my native would remind me of Kolli Hills, Somehow I finalized that I would not make it if I plan along with my native visit and would plan purely to Kolli hills for a day.

Must visit locations: Agaya Gangai Waterfalls & Seekuparai viewpoint was the only two places, which I went for, apart from these two there is a Temple which is famous – Arappaleeswar temple, Boat House, Siddhar Caves, Medicinal farm, Mini Falls, Sandhana falls, Masila Falls & Selurnadu View point.

Required Time for covering the locality: 2 Days would be recommended however, I visited in a day covering only two places.

Famous places which are closer: Salem – Yarcaud, Nammkal – Narasimhaswamy temple, Trichy Srirangam Temple.

Means of Transportation: Government busses are available however, it won’t go to all tourist spots, from Bangalore it’s about 250 kms, nearest airport is Trichy, nearest Railway is Salem

Accommodation: I turned back to my cousin house in Dharmapuri, while revving across the hills found many homestays and resorts.

Mobile network: it was horrible, seems like BSNL works good and Airtel is okay.

Total Number of folks: 4

Total expense: 5k INR approx.

Distance Covered: 650km approx.

About Journey:

It had been two months since I had hit the road for extensive voyage, I was waiting for the day to revivify myself and yes the day arrived, like all the time I had a check with my crew to join and concluding count was four. Initial intended starting time was 3 30 AM and we started little late by 3 45 AM, picked one of my pal on the way, yes started to step on clutch by accelerating to its max and turn my steering towards our destination brrraaaaaappppppppp, our first stopover was after crossing Attibele toll for morning refreshment at 4 30Am and then I always stop by Krishnagiri MAC D to buy Hash brown it was 5 AM in the morning, started revving again in the direction of kolli hills, even though I knew the stretch till namakkal I thoughtlessly followed maps and it took me in the wrong path through Salem which consumed most my time to cross, As I got up early I was starving and started looking for a break and it was “Sri Amman Hotel” by 7 00 AM at Salem – Namakkal Highway road : We all ate Pongal which was yum costing 40 RS per plate.

With the taste of yummy breakfast we reached Kolli Hills entry with the greeting arch and since It is a ecstasy for riders, I saw many riders at starting point of the hill refreshing themselves and tightening there riding kits. I requested my friend to capture video, it was a wow factor as we were on stint with the opt weather condition, crossing 70 hairpin bends made me go cloud nine, we reached the top with two stops in between to take snaps and by 8 30 we were at 1300m above sea level which welcomed us with a truck blocking the road, I was patiently waiting for the truck guy to move, we planned waterfalls as first and was moving as per the maps, as I have a habit of moving across and stopping by not so famous but yet best looking places took me to an isolated hill top which will assuredly make us in progress of clicking loads of pictures and videos consuming easily over an hour, after which I started following maps towards waterfalls, it was around 11 am and I was hungry again, stopped at couple of shops and bought papaya, banana and pineapple – Banana tasted like honey, I ate lots of Banana and reached our end point by 11 30 AM, The place which we marked in the map was waterfalls however what we saw was a temple bounded by shops and vehicles all around the places, temple was swarming which is why I avoided getting in, even though it was one of the oldest temple in the surrounding I dodged due to its massive foot fall and went in search of water falls and lastly we saw a board directing towards it, with an entrance fee of 20 INR per head, we started walking around 12 AM, after crossing about 50 + steps I realized by looking at the folks who were returning from waterfalls that it will take extensive time to reach and I did not carry water or anything else along with me hence I walked back to my four wheel toy and took a bottle of water and snacks, after carrying essential water and snacks we headed back on the way to waterfalls, we went down almost 100 + steps and passerby told us there is over 1000 steps to cross and man it was crazy, most of the stairs was steep and was hitting hard for me as I was wearing a Jean, somehow we crossed 1000 + steps which resulted with a heavenly milky white waterfalls blessing us with its breezy water drops, Agaya gangai water falls was one of the lengthiest about 300 feet I have ever seen in Tamizhnadu, its source is from river Aiyaaru, even though it was startling to watch, all its surrounding was unclean, we Humans will surely make a mess out of natural gifted atmospheres, we spent about approx. 20 minutes near the waterfalls and started back, climbing back to the top, was utterly a dare as it is not easy to climb 1000 + steep stairways which made me drenched with my sweat, saw a uncle fall unconscious while climbing a stair and most of the elderly people were inactive whole way up the stairs. There is one shop in the stairs vending butter milk and lemon juice, Agayagangai waterfalls is not for faint hearted people as it will surely consumes close 3 hours’ time period. After coming up I had a cup of Herbal soup which is very famous in the Hill top paying 10 INR for a cup was refreshing, there is bunch of eateries around the temple even though I was starved I did not opt for the place as it was over congested, coming from water fall drained out my energy completely which is why I do not want to go another water fall in the surrounding hence decided to go SeekuParai view point, on the way to view point I stopped near Semmedu fire station to have lunch at a small eatery joint, it was a small narrow hut with 4 tables, there were two cooks who served us a tasty household lunch pricing 60 INR per head after which we again headed towards view point, road ways to view point is narrow and best part was the view point with less footfall which is what I look in any geography, I believe there is nobody to preserve the place as there were bunch of guys boozing near the lane to view point, yet again we took plentiful pics and vids, it was damn cool as it was drizzling most of the time. After taking enough captures, we tried looking for other spots in the maps however, because of the strain we took for waterfalls, I felt like leaving the hills.

I had planned to stay at my cousin house in Dharmapuri and headed back towards Dharmapuri, I stopped at Kongu hotel for break and had kothu parrotta with pricing of 70 INR, I loved the memory of end of the day going towards Dharmapuri may be because of a guy who was trying to overtake me from Toyota Innova, starting with overtaking I had no intention of revving however this Innova guy was neither going nor leaving me by side which is why I started irritating him from Salem to Dharmapuri, I’m pretty sure I had fun and Innova fellow was irked, bwuahahaha what a day to stop my four wheel toy engine at rest. would like to say there is an eatery in Krishnagiri which I got to know by my friend lately and is well-known for its Palkova[Halkova] sweet which is 55 INR for 250 gms, guess hereafter I will keep halting at this joint whenever I pass by. I started back to Bangalore next day post breakfast.

I found most of the places was piled up with garbage, the pretty attractiveness is shading, please stop littering and keep our only planet healthy.

Thanks for eying at my words.
